What We Believe

OUR Beliefs

United Methodists are ecumenical, meaning that we are willing to work with and learn from Christians of other denominations. We do not claim to be the only true church, but part of the family of Christian believers.
We believe in bringing our intellect to our faith. We welcome questions and searching. We combine this with experience, recognizing that each person’s experience of God’s assurance also informs their faith.
We intentionally keep personal and social holiness in balance. We keep our personal holiness healthy through the spiritual disciplines of daily devotions, small group Bible studies, worship, small group meetings, and fellowship. Our personal holiness is lived through our social holiness, working to make this life better for the people around us. We do this through making and providing blankets, an active food pantry, and sharing our building.

United Methodists rely on God’s grace. We are loved and accepted by God from our birth, experiencing God’s grace before we have even known God’s name. We are saved through grace, the moment we recognize and accept God’s presence in our lives. We continue in God’s grace as we grow closer to God and strive for perfection in love.

United Methodists are often considered a more progressive denomination as we welcome all people, Republicans, Democrats, Independents, wealthy, poor, in between, straight, LGBTQ+, people of all ages, citizens, and undocumented. We believe that God’s love through Jesus is extended to all people. If Jesus would eat with you, we will, too!
